Such a wonderful season is the summer, of course! The sun shines and the sky fills our days with light and colours. Who loves flowers and plants will love their green corners in this period more. Such as balconies, terrace and gardens, filled with bright summer flowers and plants.
About your green corner: remember that not all flowers love straight sunlight, so be attentive in choosing the right corner for them. You may choose the flowers that can stand heat, need not much shade and at the same time bloom all summer long.
Under the sun…
The winner of all balconies can be geranium. It is popular with their beautiful and various colours, and we would chose them because geranium is blooming till late October and they are not very much cherishing them. You can choose the drooping geraniums, verbena can match them too, or zone geraniums, from large erect inflorescences fill the pots with their small corollas.
Even Surfinie are at the top of the preferences of the lovers of summer flowers. They offer a wide choice among the many varieties available, all different in colour, shape and size of the flowers. Not so keen on the sun of the hottest days, so you better position them on terraces or balconies where, starting in the afternoon can be protected from the shadows. The Surfinie provide real cascades of colourful flowers, but you have to feed them and water them regularly, every week, with a fertilizer rich in potassium.
If you have not much time to water the plants on the balcony or in the terrace, the choice may fall out on succulent plants, perfect for sunny locations. Examples? The Mesembriantemi, succulent ground cover plants, perennials; or purslane, an annual plant, so next year will return to colour the terrace
In shadow…
If you have a balcony where plants can get only a few hours of sun, avoid surfinie and geraniums, because the lack of light would prevent the abundant flowering, so you won’t have that wonderful blooming. Opt for those plants and flowers that do not like to be very to the sun, such as impatiens, but will bloom for you until October.
Among other plants suitable for balconies and terraces shaded, there is also Torenia, which is very decorative and easy to grow, have pink, white, yellow or purple flowers, trumpet-shaped. We should also mention the alyssum by the – with small flowers: a plant that spreads easily, filling the planters.
