… in solitude, in sickness, in confusion, the mere knowledge of friendship makes itpossible to resist, even if the friend does not have the power to help us. Just that it exists. Friendship is not diminished by distance or by time, by imprisonment or war, by sufferingor silence. It is in these things it drives deeper roots. It is from these things that it flowers….
